The Step Up.

This is a critical skill for most companion parrots, but also the most deceptively difficult. Let's start at the beginning. What exactly IS a Step Up?

Our definition: Step Up is when your bird places both feet onto your hand or perch.

This is a full transfer of body weight, and is a large commitment for any parrot. The trust between you and your bird must be built to a point where they trust you to be a stable perch. In addition, they must have some desire or reason to want to come and perch with you. Let's explore the mechanics of training this behaviour, how we add a cue, and how we make sure each and every Step Up is reinforcing for your bird. That way, they will be Step Up Champs in no time!
